Play Therapy Play is the language of children. It has many different dialects and requires a skilled therapist to interpret and help a child work through the healing process. Many children do not possess the language/cognitive skills necessary to express their emotions or describe their experiences. Play Therapy allows the child to play through life’s struggles in a safe environment.
Why would my child need Play Therapy? Sometimes experiences that adults would consider “normal” events, such as changing schools, moving, bullying, etc are traumatic in the eyes of a child. Play Therapy helps children understand, express, and regulate themselves.
How will I be involved?
Parent involvement is crucial. You will be asked to meet periodically with your child’s therapist. Communication of important events and experiences during the week is important. At times you may also be asked to provide emotional support for the therapy process at home. You will also be involved in helping us measure progress and in following recommendations of the therapist.
